face claim~ Jim Sturgess
fandom~ Doctor Who
canon / original~ original
hair color~ Dark brown
eye color~ Bronze
height~ 6’2”
weight~ 167lbs
distinctive features~ Charming, deceptively kind eyes.
general appearance~ The Kryiotes stands 6’2” tall and has a general charm about him but looks can be deceiving. He has soft attractive features that are very helpful for luring people into trusting him. All of his emotions are in his eyes and he hardly lets what he is really feeling show on his face. The Kyriotes’ style various slightly but no matter what he’s wearing he usually has a tie and is wearing some kind of jacket, coat, or even cardigan. He tends to stick with neutral and dark colored, mainly grays and blacks. He walks with a certain amount of pride in his step and there is a clear arrogant air about him, unless he is putting on an act to get people to think otherwise.
likes~
02. MESSIAH~ Messiah is the name he gave to his TARDIS shortly after stealing her and fleeing from Gallifrey. He is very protective of Messiah and she has been the only companion of his the last ninety years since the end of the Time War.
03. PAINTING~ A little quirk of his. The Kyriotes likes to paint, or even just sketch when he has down time or needs to think. It clears his mind and even helps with the deduction process.
04. MUSIC~ The Kyriotes has a fondness for the arts and listening and composing music is something he has done on his TARDIS, Messiah. There is always some kind of music playing while he travels. As much as he dislikes the human race he does enjoy their music.
05. SELFISH DEEDS~ Anything that will secure him as somewhat famous, infamous, basically well known across the universe the Kyriotes is all for it. He performs little good deeds and even big ones with the sole intent on helping himself and hardly caring how it will affect others. He does this to try and rid himself of the guilt for abandoning his people in the Time War, and in hopes they will pardon him.[/ul]
dislikes~
02. HUMANS~ The Kyriotes has a dislike for other races in general, even his own, but he dislikes the Human race the most. He doesn’t see the appeal of them that most of the Universe tends to see.
03. DOUBT~ The Kyriotes does not like it when others doubt him. It’s a blow to ego, and even his confidence a bit. This is one way to make him angry. He will however, try even harder to prove himself which can cause him to become reckless.
04. ORDERS~ The Kyriotes is very independent and does not take orders well if at all. He does not like listening to others and when given orders it will further send The Kyriotes in the opposite direction just to spite that person. This is one of his naïve childlike qualities. One can hope that as he gets older he’ll grow out of it.
05. BOREDOM~ He left Gallifrey because he got tired of just watching the universe. He always has to be busy doing something and will move onto the next exciting thing just to keep interested. He hates boredom and waiting. He isn’t a very patient individual.[/ul]
habits~
02. CYNICISM~ The Kyriotes is a bit of a cynic. He doesn’t really believe in a good of humanity or any of that.
03. SARCASM~ With a dry sense of humor, the Kyriotes is quite fond of using sarcasm in most situations. He has a habit of using it as a defense mechanism as well. To keep others from possibly getting closer to him or trying to dig deep he resorts to wit and sarcasm.
04. NEUROTICISM/TEMPERAMENTAL~ The Kyriotes can go through fits where he can be temperamental and a touch neurotic. Mostly this is because of Rhona or his guilt for running from the Time War. Sometimes his anger can get away with him and without warning he can snap but gets his anger under control fairly easily.
05. NAIL BITING~ A small quirk that he has picked up in this regeneration. When nervous or anxious he is often found biting at his nails. His hands often twitch as well when he’s clearly nervous.[/ul]
strengths~
02. AMBITIOUS~ The Kyriotes has high ambitions for himself. He wants to be known through out the Universe. He doesn’t want to rule over anyone but he wants recognition and even respect. If he has to be feared to have people know his name then so be it.
03. DETERMINED~ He has strong determination and if The Kryitoes sets out to do something he usually doesn’t stop until he has succeeded.
04. OUTGOING~ The Kyriotes is by no means shy around anyone. There are times, depending on who it is and the situation, that he will be brutally honest with someone. His pride and arrogance shining through like usual.
05. HIDDEN COMPASSION~ The Kyriotes does have a coincious and he is very much capable of compassion, and sympathy toward others. And while he feels this he doesn’t often show it to others. He keeps it inside and tries to distance himself from others. [/ul]
weaknesses~
02. COWARD~ This trait seems to contradict his pride, but The Kyriotes is very delusional when it comes to his pride. He turned twice and ran from the Time War afraid to fight. And though he talks big, he gets others to fight for him in many situations. He uses pride and his arrogance to convince him that he isn’t a coward.
03. GUILT~ There is guilt hidden beneath the surface of The Kyriotes. He left his people and at first did not regret his decision to leave and see the universe rather than possibly die in a war he had no desire to take part of. However after the second time he ran, the guilt began to sink in at how he abandoned his people. After being restored to a Time Lord after using the Chameleon Arch, the guilt weighed a bit more heavily and in order to rid himself of it he decided to go back to saving people but with the intent on making himself look better to his people. He did not want them to find him, and if they did he wanted to be able to have a case of good deeds to throw their way. His intentions are purely selfish and he does not really care about helping others, he only cares about helping himself.
04. RHONA~ A Scottish woman The Kyriotes had fallen in love with and married when he was human for a short time. In his alias Jacob Parker, he had fallen for this woman and after he became a Time Lord again she was still in love with him. He left her though, claiming to care nothing for her. He feels guilty for leaving her and it is possible there is a piece of The Kyriotes that still feels for her. He hates to mention her or be reminded of her.
05. NAIVE~ The Kyriotes is still pretty young as far as Time Lords go. He likes to believe that he knows how the Universe works and how people function but that is just his arrogance talking. He tends to deny things that don’t go with his universal view because he doesn't want to believe it to be true.[/ul]
goals~ The Kyriotes’ only goals in his life include traveling the Universe booting his pride wherever he can. This means that he will help other races in need only if it will benefit his image. He does it to feel good about himself for running from the Time War, twice.
secrets~ He keeps his name a secret from others and has not spoken it since he left Gallifrey hundreds of years ago.
overall personality~ The Kyriotes is first and foremost arrogant and proud. Those are his two strongest and worst qualities about him. Since staring into the Untempered Schism, The Kyriotes has felt a strong sense or purpose and pride in being a Time Lord to the point where he is blinded to the actual feelings of others. He very self-absorbed and hardly cares for anyone but himself. Even if he does care for someone, The Kyriotes does not choose to show it. He passes situations and most people off with cold indifference. He hides this side of him when he is “helping” others. The Kyriotes will force a false sense of caring to a point where those who don’t know him will believe and trust him. The Kyriotes can be very manipulative this way.
He gives a false sense of security to those around him only to better his title and name. Since The Kyriotes fled twice from the Time War, he has it in his head that the Time Lords will come searching for all of the cowards and traitors even if they aren’t. In order to cure his hidden guilt, The Kyriotes has chosen to help others to make up for it. Of course he does not truly care about the people he is helping, he only cares that the Time Lords see he has helped others. He is in it all for the reward and the benefit of himself. He has a snobby, holier than thou attitude and in most cases he is not afraid to let it be known that he is a Time Lord and is therefore better than anyone else.
The Kyriotes isn’t completely without compassion though; he is just very good at hiding it and pretending that he has none. When he was Jacob Park he fell in love and married a woman named, Rhona Murray. After being restored to a Time Lord, The Kyriotes left her even though she was still very much in love with him. The Kyriotes claims not to care about her, but there is a part of him that feel guilty for what he did. There may even be a piece of him that still loves her. The Kyriotes would rather not think about Gallifrey or whatever family her may or may not (because of the Time War) have there. When asked about his family or his name The Kyriotes will usually reply that both are lost or that he discarded of the waste that held him down.
The Kyriotes talks a lot of talk but isn’t a fighter when it comes down to it. He manipulates others to fight for him. He can be a contradiction as his pride should cause him to stay and fight, but Kyriotes is much a coward. He uses his pride as a façade to make himself better than anyone else. Most of the time his boasts are to make him feel better about himself to convince him that he isn’t a coward. He simply dismisses anything about the Time War. The Kyriotes will explain that he left Gallifrey due to boredom and that had he known about the war he would have gladly gone back to fight.
The Kyriotes is not above lying to get what his way. He can be a sore loser and is very much a child. Then again, he is only in his third incarnation he is a foolish youth with ambitions of becoming well known and even feared. He uses sarcasm as both a weapon and a defense mechanism. And his anger is not something one would want to mess with.
While The Kyriotes does not usually fight, it does not mean he isn’t capable in some capacity. The Kyriotes is pretty good at holding his anger inside, but he can reach his breaking point fairly quickly. It’d be nice to say that The Kyriotes has good intentions but the only intention he has is furthering his image and making a name for himself. There could be more redeeming qualities of The Kyriotes but he hasn’t found anyone yet to bring those out of him.
home town~ Gallifrey
current residence~ His TARDIS known as
parents~ He chooses not to acknowledge them
siblings~ none
pets~ none
family~ Has disregarded that his family even exists.
history~ The Kyriotes, his Gallifreyian name known only to him, was born on Gallifrey where at the age of eight was entered into the Time Lord Academy after looking into the Untempered Schism. Looking into the void The Kyriotes felt a surge of power and this is initially where his pride sprouted. He saw all of the possibilities and realized that being a Time Lord meant being masters of time and he could do just about whatever he pleased. In the Time Lord Academy, The Kyriotes quickly learned how strict the council was about never interfering in the affairs of other planets. It seemed like a waste to sit back and observe the universe and not go out to see it in all of its glory and potential. The Kyriotes stayed at the Academy and studied for a time until the Time War broke out. Although The Kyriotes put up a brave front but when he was asked to fight in the Time War, he ran.
He stole a TARDIS he later would give a name to, Messiah. He boarded the Messiah and traveled across the stars. It did not take The Kyriotes long to realizes that if the Time Lords won they would not be pleased with his abandonment of his people. He dropped his Gallifreyian name to take on the title, The Kyriotes that translates to Dominions in Greek. The Dominions were, according to Earth religion, a choir of Angels that were said to be the first beings to be given free will to manage the daily functioning of the universe. With this title the arrogant Time Lord traveled the stars and visiting planets boasting about his origin and what he was. He showed off his abilities to travel through time to others, his ego only further growing. During his time through the Universe and time The Kyriotes got into a few scrapes that ended in him having to regenerate for the second time (The first regeneration occurred while he was in The Academy during a petty fight he had with another student).
He did all of this while the Time War raged on. He tried to pretend the Time War did not happen, to keep his pride intact and he acted as though he chose to leave Gallifrey based on the principal that it held nothing for him. At one point The Kyriotes went back to Gallifrey when he heard that the Time War was not going well. He still refused to fight and the guilt of it started to eat away him and he fled from Gallifrey once more never to look back. This time terrified that they would come searching for him now being a twice coward, The Kyriotes landed on Earth using a Chameleon Arch to change himself into a human. Though he hated the idea of giving up everything that made him a Time Lord he feared what they would do if he were to be confronted by them.
The Kyriotes became a man named Jacob Parker living in Scotland on a small farm, Jacob Parker was the complete opposite of The Kyriotes in personality. He was a kind caring man who put others before himself. He lived in Scotland alone for five years before he fell in love with a woman named Rhona Murray. He married her and the two planned to move to Wales after the wedding to live on the southern coast. During the move Jacob found an old fob watch he had forgotten about. The watch, according to the memories of Jacob Parker, had come from his grandfather. Rhona told him to get rid of the old thing since it didn’t work, it at least sounded like the watch did not work. Jacob on the other hand believed he could hear things coming from it, though he usually paid it no mind. Curious as to why he had never gotten rid of it before but felt drawn to it, Jacob opened the fobwacth restoring himself to a Time Lord, The Kyriotes. Rhona bore witness to it all, and although she was (needless to say) freaked out, she still loved the man she knew as Jacob. The Kyriotes arrogance came back and realized what being human had caused him to marry a human. He sneered at Rhona and left her back into the Messiah which sat behind his house as a busted shed with a perception filter that kept him from entering. In the back of his mind somewhere The Kyriotes regrets leaving Rhona the way he did but he did not love her, the human identity Jacob Parker did.
After discovering the Time War ended with the Time Lords victorious, The Kyriotes figured it would be a matter of time before they dealt with traitors and cowards. He knows that it was foolish to have used the Chameleon Arch as it seemingly did not help him, though in the long run that woman Rhona Murray would make a much bigger difference than either of them would have guessed. An idea struck The Kyriotes, in order to regain his honor and the approval of the other Time Lords he decided to start saving people again. He decided to help other races when needed in order to make him look better in the eyes of his people. The Kyriotes does not care what it will take for him to come out on top, although he isn’t much of a fighter and he’ll usually get others to fight for him. He has traveled across the universe for the last ninety years running from his people, his pride and arrogance still clouding his better judgment.
rp sample~
The hour was growing late and the two suns of the Vega system were setting in the north like they normally did. The Kyriotes had found himself only half enjoying the beauty of it all. His mind was cluttered with the most recent attempt to play Robin Hood. He would have succeeded in the little adventure if that woman hadn’t gotten in the way and ruined everything. Concern for the now deceased woman and the others who died as a result of her foolishness did not bother the Kyriotes as much as it should have. It was a failed job. The Kyriotes would simply move onto the next thing. He sniffed and stood leaning against the doorjamb of his TARDIS he had named, Messiah. She was the only being in the universe he really trusted. He stared at the suns, one brilliantly red and the other a warm yellow. In the glow of the setting suns the empty fields of dried wheat grass seemed to shine with the same tinge of yellow as the first sun. He took in a deep breath and stepped back inside Messiah shutting the doors.
The Kyriotes leaned over the console gently touching the controls with absolute care, as if a single firm touch would bruise her. After a moment of smiling to himself he flicked a tiny purple switch. Classical music started up and echoed through the control room. He smiled broadly at the sound and hummed along for a moment before walking around to the other side of the console. He pressed a few buttons and threw up the level that sent the Messiah hurtling through time and space again. He steadied himself moving briskly around the Messiah’s console steering his beloved ship toward their next destination.
“We’ll try again my love.” he said above the music. “Just a small speed bump. There are plenty of worlds out there that need fixing, and the person they need is me. They’ll start calling for us! Just wait!” he turned a knob, flipped another switch and as a result the control room dimmed for a second but his Messiah picked up speed. He fell faster through the vortex. The rush was something the Kyriotes would never get used to. He didn’t want to be used to it. That sickly feeling of free falling and twirling through the universe was the most exciting thing. Letting out a boisterous laugh, almost boarding on crazy, the Kyriotes ran around to the other side of the console skidding on the crystal floor but catching him on one of the levers saving him from a fall. He laughed harder like a child. He wasn’t sure where they were going but wherever and whenever it was the Kyriotes was sure there would be an opportunity waiting for him.
