» so what? i'm still a rockstar! « »and guess what? i'm having more fun! « It wasn't exactly a secret that there was a shape-shifter running around upstate California. Even for someone like Brandon, who avoided research like the plague, the evidence was as clear as the light of day. (Well, the light of day would have been if there was actually light out. Sunny California was a lot more overcast and a lot less.. well, sunny than he imagined it would be.) With the cloud cover up till well past noon, it was no wonder the shifter had been committing it's murders in broad daylight (again, daylight being a very loose term.) There was no connection between the victims; each was blamed on a different killer; and of course, every court of law managed to conveniently ignore the pile of discarded clothes and skin left within a mile of each killing. Of course, it probably wasn't so much their negligence as it was they hadn't felt the need to look that far. The weapons were all left next to the bodies and well- well actually that should have been a red flag in itself because no real criminal was that stupid, right? Brandon wouldn't call himself a killer, and he wouldn't call himself a genius, but even he knew that leaving a bloody weapon with your fingerprints on it was a sure way to land yourself in the slammer.
And that was the second time he'd figured out something that seemed to be unknown to everyone else. This case, it had been making Brandon feel pretty damn smart. That is, until he was chasing the shifter down... Okay, fine. Until he was stalking the shifter to chase it down... Still don't believe it? Damn! Okay. So he was trying to locate the shifter which may have possibly probably been in the same mall as him at.. some point, and in.. some type of body. Um. He probably should have thought this part through. And it certainly didn't help that his fly-worthy attention span kept pulling him from the crowds of people and to the skate shops and food courts. If anyone asked, (not like they would though), he was using the store security TVs to check for the glare that would signify someone wasn't quite as human as they should be. And of course, buying the ice cream was purely to help him keep his cover.
He glanced with a furrowed expression at the coming and going crowds, fidgeting with the gun he had concealed under his jacket. Killing the bastard was going to be easy. Super easy. He just hadn't figured it'd be so hard to find. He was using a cell phone that... may or may not have actually been his to continue his search for someone with recorded glowing eyes. He was trying to be inconspicuous about it, which may have been why he missed the man running towards him full force, and knocking him off his feet before he knew what hit him. People hurried to either side to let the man pass and avoid the same fate. Brandon just managed to watch the hardly worn black Converse run past the corner and out of his line of sight.

» call the peacemaker « » death to the girl at the end of the serenade « Riley perched on the roof of the mall, having just lost her target among the masses. There was a shapeshifter here, roaming freely and hurting innocents. She absently fiddled with the silver blade at her hip, used specifically for the beasties who were weak to silver, just like this shifter. She gave a small sigh and watched the people through one of the skylights, looking for her target. She knew which body he was in when he'd gone into the mall, and there was no way he could shift while inside; there were too many people.
She gave a small smirk as she zeroed in on him among the masses. He knew that he was in trouble, and he definitely knew that she was hunting him as he ran through the mall, even having the gall to push a boy over and spilling his ice cream. She paused for a second, waiting until the perfect moment, then drew her blade and kicked open the skylight, jumping through it. She fell through the air and landed straight on the shifter's back, plunging her blade into his heart. She didn't care that she had just killed a man in the middle of a busy mall. He'd killed so many other people, and so he deserved it. While the crowd was stunned by her entrance, she pulled the bloody blade out of her target and ran off into the depths of the mall, taking the stairs three at a time and heading towards the exit.

It sort of hit him as the thing was running away that it was the shifter he was chasing after -or if not, something equally as guilty. He jumped up and followed after it, hardly paying mind to the people left sort of confused and gaping at the whole deal. He turned the corner and sped up and there it was right in his sight, but before he got the chance to attack it a red headed girl came in from out of NOWHERE and landed on it's back. Brandon skidded to a stop (his sneakers were well worn and without much traction) and watched as she plunged her blade into it's chest. First thought: it was the shapeshifter. Second: she was a hunter. Third: that wasn't fair!
She was smart enough to take off after that, and avoid the coming trouble, but he wasn't going to stick around and take the heat when someone points out that he had something to do with the guy- as a witness or otherwise, he really didn't do Cops. So he headed for the stairs too. Once they were away from the crowd he called out, "You know I had everything under control!"

Clearly, judging from his words, he'd been chasing the same shifter she had, and he'd been down there in the mall, tracking him. "Obviously you didn't, as the shifter was roaming loose in a populated area," she replied, unsure of what exactly the problem was. As long as the thread was eliminated, what was the point of being upset that she'd taken it out rather than him? People were strange.

Not that he'd expected he'd apologize for killing the supernatural creature or anything. He just thought... okay, he didn't think. That didn't change the fact that it was still his hunt.. you know..to him. "And it wasn't loose! I was gonna get it... until you went and got in the way!"
