distinctive features~
general appearance~
In effort to avoid pursuing law enforcement and, well, because it's fun, Brandon changes his appearance on a regular basis. His hair by nature is a medium brown, but he prefers to dye it a darker shade and can also be seen sporting black, blond or red hair, and sometimes with blue or green streaks haphazardly scattered about for the hell of it. He dresses none to differently from the typical teeanger, usually in tight jeans and tee shirts from bands he likes. True to his loud personality, he dresses in bold, noticable colors and often wears a beanie or scarf or some other accessory. His hunting attire consists of only darker clothes, mostely heavily worn out, with a loose belt around his waist that serves to hold his various weapons and supplies. He's for the most part a happy kid, no real darkness in his demeanor. He's not so much an intimidating presense full of muscle as he is an unpredictable one that can spring you out of nowhere.
likes~
Brandon didn't become a Hunter because he was raised into a family of the sort, and his early life involved no demonicly caused tragidy. Brandon's only involvemnt with the world of the supernatural is the one he got himself into. He hunts because he wants to, and he enjoys every single thing about it. Though he might not be the most knowledgable hunter around, it's a mix of that 'right thing to do' notion and just the fun of kicking demon ass that keeps him Hunting day after day. He sees it as something that separates him from the rest of the monotonous and oblivious world, and that's certainly a plus.
02. STUNTS~
Ever since he was young, Brandon's been a bit of an adreniline junkie, causing him all sorts of trouble everywhere he went. Now hat he's older he's learned that he can use this problem to make a quick buck. He's all for daring and improbable stunts; jumping off things and fighting the law of gravity long enough to make it look downright cool. Time the in trees has given him a big of a feel for gymnastics. If he wasn't a hunter, he'd love to be a double in an action movie; but for now he'll settle on a hundred bucks every time someone says "there's no way you can possibly do that".
03. HAVING FUN~
Brandon isn't unlike any other eighteen year old in the fact that he likes to have a good time every now and then. Actually, he's all for the play before work attitude, and a lost of times, even play while you work. He's the kind of guy you find partying it out on Friday nights, getting drunk, checking out the ladies. His life for the most part revolves around the prospect of adventure and he'll take anyone that wants to come along for his next joyride.
04. TREES~
Whether it was to win a game of hide and seek or to take shelther in a dire situation, Brandon's always been partial to spending time in the tree tops. He's a swift climber and has been since shortly after he could walk. Trees are his saftey net in chases and escapes. He knows how to use them to his advantage to compensate for his other shortcomings. Considering he has an almost tribal relationship with trees and a respect for them and their usefulness, lumberjacks are far from his favorite people.
05. ACTION~
Brandon hates having nothing to do, therefor he tries to fit as much action and adventure in a day as he can. If there's no monsters to chase around he'll create his own reckless entertainment, but no matter what, he has to be doing something active and interesting.[/ul]
dislikes~
Well whether you take on vengeful demons and the like for a living or your monster knowledge is limited to childrens story books, nobody actually likes anything that comes creepy-crawlying out at night. They're dangerous, destructive, and they're really just ugly little weirdos for the most part. Sure, maybe there's some "good" ones out there, but if there are, Brandon hasn't met any yet. And even if he did, he probably wouldn't be making friends.
02. COPS~
Though not as bad as demons, Brandon can easily compare them to an annoying underaged ghost. The fact that they'd waste time chasing him around when there's murderers out there never made a lot of sense to him. The last year he's just being playing a big ol' game of cat and mouse. It seems like that's all the local authorities do anymore. Oh, and they interrupt his hunts. And they eat donuts. But that last one's probably their only merit.
03. QUESTIONS~
Despite being the type of person that will "Why why why?" until tommorow, Brandon's never been comfortable answering other people's questions. It's not usually because he has anything to hide; his ability to word what he wants to say though he's never been really pleased with. Apparently asking question about your past with "I don't know" makes other people uncomfortable, and then there's just a whoooole mess.
04. ADULTS~
When Brandon needed them they were never there and when they were there he'd already learned he didn't need them. Like most kids, he was a firm believer that grown ups were from another planet, or some mutant brainwashed them and destroyed their ability to have fun. And of course, never, never ever, would he become one of them. Even though Brandon no longer sees them as monsters, he has a deep seeded distrust for anyone over the age of thirty.
05. THE WEALTHY~
Seeing as Brandon grew up where kids ran around the streets all day and families of six lived in one bedroom appartments and getting bread was reserved for special occasions, he has a hard time seeing people of typical American house and home as anything but lazy and lucky. For the most part, he doesn't know enough about them to care. To each their own and really, he'd never have wanted such a sheltered life anyway. But seeing real big mansions and anything involved with the government really get's his blood boiling because he just doesn't understand why anything they do is oh so great.
[/ul]
habits~
Brandon is perpetually hyper. It doesn't matter if it's past midnight and he's wandering around a church; quiet is not in Brandon's vocabulary. He bounces off the walls, speaks his oppinions about everything, and for the most part is just impossible to shut up unless he's having a strealthy moment- and that moment never lasts longer than you can say 'boom'.
02. DISTRUSTFUL~
Brandon for the most part keeps his relationships with others on as non-personal a level as possible. As he's not really settled anywhere he's never gotten to know anyone for long enough that he could trust them, and since he's used to playing the hero, the idea of letting someone watch his back is really a foreign one.
03. DESTRUCTIVE~
It's an odd day Brandon passes through a town without leaving his mark in some way, shape, or form. It's not usually his fault, but he tends to have a messy style of fighting and all but clean up his tracks. If you own a building he decides to stake out in during a hunt, I apologize in advance but you may never be back there agian.
04. ELUSIVE~
For some reason Brandon tends to always come at his destinations from an angle, opting to veer through backstreets and climb through properties that may take much needed time when he could have simply ran through a main street. He always walks with aim always slightly to the left, and when he has the ability to he jumps out at his opponents from either the left or right side.
05. FIDGITY~
Brandon isn't one for staying still. Even when idle, he's the type to pace and wring his hands around and jitter like a little kid on too much caffeene. Some people run a hand through their hair, or bite their nails, or tap but Brandon has the skillful ability to manage all three of these annoying habits at one time.[/ul]
strengths~
Well he's not dead yet! Despite everything I've said and will say about Brandon's hunting being shaky on the rocks, he can get the job done with the best of them. Between skill, luck, and detrermination, Brandon makes a decent hunter, and as I said before, he's really doing it for the right reasons. Six years on the feild now have given him enough time to learn how to deal with most of the usual baddies, and it's gotten to the point that though it's not his whole entier life, he couldn't not hunt if he tried.
02. ADAPTABLE~
As someone who generally rolls with the punches, Brandon doesn't have much a qualm with big or small changes going on around him. New places mean new people, new customs, new weather- and to his it's just a part of the big adventure. There's things he'll complain abuot sure, but far at the end of the list is jetlag or foreign cuisine.
03. CREATIVE/UNCONVENTIONAL~
As someone who's hardly opened a book in his life, Brandon couldn't play by the book if he tried. His fighting style is akin to millitia guerrilla warefare and he relies on spontaniousness instead of either skills or brute force. Though he does own and use a gun he favors a handmade slingshot that he's got bags of rock salt, wooden arrows, and silver projectiles to go with. He isn't even close to above kicks to the privates or pokes in the eye if it proves effective in his success.
04. MARAUDER~
Growing up on the streets most of his life, Brandon learned how to fend for himself, and it wasn't always in the ways most looked upon with approval. He's an expert pickpocket, and hell, lefts not forget his grand theft auto. He can play pool with the best of them and scam and hustle just about anyone he meets. He's not above breaking and entering raids in the night or, well, crashing his stolen car through a storefront. But thats a story for later.
05. AMIABLE~
Along with having a place to speak and one to keep your mouth shut, stranger danger never made much sense to Brandon. His whole life has been social interactions, figuring out how people work and either saving them or getting around them, and so for the most part he's a pretty friendly guy, and by no means a shy one. Save the things he hunts and the people that find him overly annoying (like cops), Brandon's got a way of getting on people's good sides.[/ul]
weaknesses~
Most Hunters regardless of their upbringing and positions have been raised into the world of hunting or otherwise mentored and connected to a network of those they can exchange information with. Brandon was never taught to hunt or even told that he should, and nobody ever showed him the ropes. His ropes, if you want to carry that metaphore for a second, are a bunch of tied together shoelaces that can hopefully more or less get the job done.
02. RECKLESS~
While Brandon's unpredictability can be seen as a good asset, the lack of planning that goes into his... plans is one of his greater shortcomings. If he does think, it's only one step ahead, and more often than not he simply runs headlong into dangerous situations without any regard for what might happen to him.
03. BIG WORDS~
Brandon's education is a bit on the.. lacking side. Well, okay, he's a primary school drop out that never even completed the fourth grade. He's easy to loose in intelectual conversations and finds history and research to be both the most grueling and difficult part of hunting. When it comes down to things that he can't take care of with what he has at hand, he usually gets by on sheer luck alone.
04. ATHSMA~
For as long as Brandon can remember, overexerting himself has left him breathing like a fish out of water. He couldn't tell you why or what it's called, never been properly diagnosed, but it's become a larger problem since he's started hunting. Passing out after an attack landed him in the hospital once, but he bolted before hearing from any of the staff.
05. DEFIANT~
Brandon has it dead set in his mind that he can't agree with or comply to the standards or terms of anyone- particularrly society and authority figures. Even when they make valid points or are, dare say it, right, Brandon will go out of his way to controdict them. He rebels for the sake of rebeling, because he's decided that he has to be lifes permenant underdog, and he's never ever gonna grow up.[/ul]
goals~ Saving people, having fun
secrets~ He really tries not to keep any of those
overall personality~
With Brandon, what you see is really what you get. He's a wild, fun loving teenager that knows how to roll with the punches in life and make the best of the cards he's been dealt with. He's got nine hundred ways to handle 'when life gives him lemons' and none of them involve sulking in the corner. Despite that fact that from an outside perspective, it seems like he's had a pretty harsh life, it's all he's known, and so really, there's nothing to have a problem with. He was compared a lot to Tigger as a child, or if you wanted to be a bit more modern with it, Alvin from Alvin and the Chipmunks. Trouble's practically his middle name, and life just wouldn't be any fun if it wasn't.
Though it might seem that fending for himself made Brandon more mature than the average teenager living in his parents basement and trying to scrape through school, that really isn't the case at all. He sees the world as his giant playground, and sure, he's got a hero complex. He knows there's bad things out there and he fights them for a living. But truthfully, something like his own mortality is as thought about by Brandon as it is the average four year old. If there's a will, there's a way, and so you stay optomistic until your last breath.
Yeah, you could probably say he's about as naive as he is wise, in ways that completely contradict each other. Brandon thinks on his feet, was sharp reflexes, and he'd be surprised to know how much he knows, if someone ever bothered to explain to him all the science that went into the impulses he had. As much as he's out there, loud and bold and ready to party at all hours of the day, if you expect to furthur any kind of relationship, Brandon's got his walls all up and armed. And then, of course, there's the litteral walls you'll probably crash into a few times. He's found that's always the best way to get people you don't like off your tail.
home town~ Chicago, Illinois
current residence~ Wherever the wind may blow
parents~ Who knows
siblings~ Possibly
pets~ No, that would not be a good idea
family~ See above
history~
Where Brandon came from is anyone's best guess. Whether it was because his mother was too young, too poor, ashamed, dead, or maybe she just had something better to do with her life than raise a son, Brandon was a kid dropped off in the middle of nowhere to become some elses problem. Not very nice, but there wasn't much about Chicago in the ninties that was. The law only got involved with these places when they needed body bags, and at the point, who ever really cared?; the deed was done. Brandon wasn't taken in by one person, but sort of became community property, raised by the slightly nicer, slightly more well off people (because even the slums had their upper class).
As soon as he was old enough to handle himself, he was left to fend for himself. No different than any other kid on the block, but most of them had the luxury of knowing they had a place to sleep every night. Looking at things optomistically, Brandon had the luxury of knowing he had nobody to take care of but himself, and all the time in the world to do whatever he wanted with it. Out of necessity, he learned to steal, beg, and borrow. He learned to make a home for himself in the trees and run along the tops of big buildings without making a sound. He could drop to the ground at a gunshot and probably, if he had the chance, aim a weapon as good as he could toss a rock (and his rocks didn't miss). By the time he was six, he dubbed himself a protecter of the children, the one who swooped in and led kids through the dark alley ways and secret holes in the fence when they were caught in the act or otherwise in trouble. The one who always had a place to hide and a few extra peices of candy in his pockets. It wasn't until more than a year later there came a day he was the one who needed saving.
It had been raining, and he'd been cutting through people's back yards in a heist escape, but there were beads dangling from where he'd stuffed them in his jacket pocket (they'd also fallen all over the ground when he'd snagged then and cut himself up jumping a fence) and a man grabbing his arm. And then out of nowhere, there was a girl who must have been twice his age that showed up, claimed to be his sister, and talked him calmly out of trouble. She claimed he'd thought it was the necklace she'd lost, assured him it wasn't, and then returned it to the angry man who muttered and stalked off. It had been, honestly, very impressive.
It wasn't until weeks later Brandon found out his new friend Rena (her real name much longer and more difficult to pronounce) had been an angel in only the body of a human before.. falling, from her grace. It had come up in almost casual conversartion. She'd laughed and shook her head and said he'd never believe her. But like any child who'd never been told there were no such thing as monsters, he proclaimed she was the coolest thing in the world and suddenly wanted to know everything about... everything! The idea of being a hunter spawned from that day. The Angels were supposed to protect the humans, but not all of them wanted to. God was supposed to protect the angels, but appearntly he wasn't doing his job either. Heaven seemed short on help, and he wanted to offer his assistance in any way he could just like Rena did for him.
His angelic new friend didn't stay for long; Brandon knew her only until he turned thirteen, but he probably learned more from her than any mother he ever spent the night with or school he ever attended. He became a capable Hunter, good at finding jobs and finishing them through. He left Chicago and didn't look back once, picking up life on the road and stopping wherever he pleased. He hitchhiked and motel hopped. Crimes became less, more when he had to, not just wanted to. The only exception was his car. A self given sixteenth birthdady present. He saw them lugging it in a Military auto show. A beautiful, durrible, fully functioning '65 mustang that nobody planned on driving again. He high tailed it with that car and made himself a wanted man, but it was going to waste sitting around anyway. There wasn't anyone that needed it more and the fact it cound drive through glass was an added bonus.
Now that he had wheels he began Hunting more seriously, looking for gigs instead of just stumbling upon them. He's seen the lot of the Southern states and New England and visited two of the great monuments. That's where he is now; lumbering on the great American hunters joyride.
