yo, Phips here.
i came here from the sun- what do you think? i helped make the place
and i joined because it'd be rather redundant if i didn't
i've circled the sun 14 times
about 1 of them have been spent roleplaying
i have 3 other characters:
Sirius Black, Dean Winchester, Martin Riggs
rules? of course I've read the rules; here's proof: glowsticks

birth name~ Oh I'm sure you'd just love to know. But there are some questions that are better left unanswered... and some answers that are best lost over time.
nicknames~ THE DOCTOR.
Yes, just the Doctor. Doctor who? Please see the question above.
This would be his most used alias by far, if you could informalize yourself to the point you actually called it a nickname. It's a title, really. And one recognized on more planets than the average human knows exists and for more years than one would be willing to count. Of course, it's still questioned.
JOHN SMITH.
You can't track that? Mm, well it is quite the list.
For the rare occasion when blending in with humans proves beneficial, what better way to fake humanity than to do what any human faking their identity would? Around as long as the English speaking, John Smith has become the name for the unknown face no matter what the century, and the Doctor has frequented it as a draw back since his first incarnation.
THE ONCOMING STORM.
A warning to his enemies. An assurance to his friends.
A name used at first by those who fear him, but still had the pretense to taunt with all that they'd won. It's the name given to a killer, one who committed genocide on two races. It's the name of one who can never forget it. And one who, if he was forced to, would do it again.
THETE SIGMA.
Greek, for the lovely language it is and all it's worth.
The Doctor went by this during his years at the Academy. Depending on the spelling, it can translate to both 'who' and 'God'. With so many years gone, so much having happened since those that knew the name- this one would be more or less out of circulation.
THE LAST OF THE TIME LORDS.
A nickname? No. A fact.
Everything he is, everything he resembles, and most importantly- a note of exactly what he can never be. This name is as self given as his title, and it speaks for itself. There's little need for any explanation.
MR. SPOCK-
Oh, had it been anyone but Rose.
A normal person? The earful they'd have gotten about the inaccuracies, branching all of that garbage the humans called scientific developments with reality in attempt to impress one Jack Harkness. Had it been anyone but Rose, anyone, this name wouldn't have made the list.
age && date of birth~ Old. 900 he says, because after a certain point what's another ten centuries or so? Once you've said the big 500 there's not a human who's jaw wont drop. And the years themselves are nothing compared to the experiences in them.
gender~ Male
species~ Time Lord, which is nothing to be proud of
sexuality~ Disinterested
occupation~ Savior of the universe, but hardly can he go by that
face claim~ Christopher Eccleston
fandom~ Doctor Who
canon / original~ Canon
hair color~ black
eye color~ steel blue
height~ 6'1
weight~ 170
distinctive features~ large ears, a leather coat, and a northern accent
general appearance~
The Doctor is a relatively dark figure, in both his appearance and his demeanor. This is particularly true if he feels the need to actually put effort into looking down on you (Say, you're a human about to do something incredibly stupid they may cost millions of lives. You'd be surprised how often that happens.). Despite his hatred of it, he's a natural leader with the ability to command even those already in positions of power with a single stern gaze.
His eyes are by far his most expressive feature, never managing to quite fake the joy his grins can. He's noted himself that his ears are on the large side, though it's in part appearance due to the way his hair is cut around them.
The Ninth incarnation of the Doctor has taken to dress much differently than both his proceeders and those that would come after him. He wears very dark clothing, almost black-clad, and his attire is simple and monotone, consisting of solid pants and a jumper as opposed to the Victorian and/or flamboyant choices many of of the previous Doctors preferred. Despite the planet or period he's on, he does not change into more appropriate attire.
He goes without scarf, hat, or tie, opting instead to frequent a well worn leather jacket. Upon his regeneration he wanted to shed himself as much of his recent past as quickly as possible, taking the approach of a murderer cleaning blood from his hands in choosing attire so very much unlike what he wore while ending the Time War.
likes~
The sole proof that there is hope for the human race. No; the sole proof that there is good in the world. Rose embodies what the Doctor can only assume is pure innocence, and though she may not be the smartest or bravest being, she is so real, so caring and down to earth and thoughtless but with the best intentions, that he can't help caring for her intently, and doing everything in his power to keep them from parting.
02. THE TARDIS~
The TARDIS is the Doctor's oldest friend, and where companions have come and gone, planets have come and gone, she's been the only constant thing by his side. In his TARDIS alone is the sole place he'll abandon his facade of the day. He cares for her as much as he's cared for those he's traveled with, and he probably trusts her more than all his past companions combined.
03. WHEN THINGS GO RIGHT~
It's not until you've lost everything that you can understand the value of a single life, be it the smallest or the largest, the last one or one in a million. It's a rare day, in any world, the day that everyone lives. And it's that single day that the Doctor rejoices.
04. INTERESTING ALIENS~
Shockingly enough, they're not all stupid, naive, corrupted; there are things in the universe that are simply... fantastic. Though very different than his previous incarnations, something that the Doctor has never lost if his love for traveling about time and space and learning new things. He does truly appreciate life and there are certain places and species and people that he hold in very high regard.
05. CONFIDENCE~
One of the things the Doctor tries to instill in others is the ability to think well of themselves and trust their instincts. In moderation, confidence can mark a brilliant leader- something that cant be argued after seeing first hand in history. When in excess, something quite commonly found on Earth, it's still highly amusing. (This is also commonly known as Jack Harkness!)[/ul]
dislikes~
Well, is there anything about these bloody creatures to like? They're mindless, sadistic, machines. And every time they appear in the Doctor's life they leave a wake of pain and destruction. The only thing that made the destruction of the Time Lords seem worthwhile was that the Daleks were destroyed to. And then that went out the metaphorical window. They're the cockroaches of the universe, and even now that they're "gone", The Doctor's hate for them is unfathomable.
02. FAILURE~
Again, nobody likes failure.... Their own failure anyway. Jut as the Doctor likes occasions when things go right, he has a strong distaste for not being able to do enough or making bad decisions. Despite the fact he's often stuck in a rock or a hard place, the Doctor believes the safety of the universe his his responsibility and he should be able to keep people, particularly ones he cares about, safe from harm.
03. DEATH~
Its more watching death than the concept really. Things are born and things die, but then- things can sometimes die before their time. And sometimes they die because someone else couldn't save them. That's the kind of death that the Doctor has a hard time accepting. He's witnessed too much of it in his life, and particularly in the recent years during the Time War. He can't stand to stand by and watch a good person die.
04. THE CONSTANT PERIL EARTH FINDS ITSELF IN~
Because frankly, the planet isn't 'a fun one to babysit. The Doctor is very much aware that humans have no choice in being "stupid apes"- it's in their nature, but he does wish that maybe they could flaunt that stupidity just a smidge less to the rest of the multiverse, and maybe consequently save themselves a few alien invasions now and again. He's notabley spent more time on Earth than most any other planet, and every time he leaves them to their own devices, they just manage to get into more trouble.
05. STAGNATION~
Constantly moving, the Doctor is constantly moving. Keeping himself busy doing as much good as he can for the universe is really what keeps the Doctor from brooding on his past, and so he does try to fill the majority of his time with creation and adventure and companionship. He falls into a downward spiral very quickly when he has nothing else to do but think, which is why sometimes he appears far more impulsive than sharp-witted.[/ul]
habits~
One day, in the very distant centuries away future, the Doctor will be on the road to forgiving himself. He'll be able to put his worse memories into a little mental box and sum the Time War up as a "bad day". That day isn't today. In fact, the POSSIBILITY there may ever be a 'that day', that isn't today either. The Doctor looks to the past and not the future; at the negatives as opposed to the positives; and he broods on everything he's ever done wrong, all the time.
02. INSULTING SPECIES~
While the Ninth Doctor has come to appreciate life to a greater extent than his proceeders, he seems to be cursed in the way of finding every form of fault and corruption in a living organism (except Rose). He has a nasty habit of pointing out species' faults, especially when it's to a member of said species' face. Of course, he doesn't say anything this isn't true. He's come to know that, despite how lowly he thinks of humans, there are actually thousands of races even less intelligent. To assure I'm not putting him off as arrogant, the Time Lords are in his opinion extremely faulted, and he'll say that as openly as he'll insult humans (which he does a lot!).
03. EMOTIONAL MASKING~
Despite his sorrow the Doctor has created a facade for himself of almost manic energy, and is sometimes questioned- like how he could walk into a battle, grin and call it "fantastic". It's not even work anymore, he's lived so long with this persona it comes naturally and is rarely doubted. It was invented for the sake of those around him, but he has managed to use it to fool himself.
04. HERO COMPLEX~
His own sense of failure has given the Doctor the need to save people. While that's always been something he did, it's never been such a priority. The only time he can loose a fraction of his own guilt is after lessening the death toll on his account by saving a life. He looks for trouble, for people to save, for things that are manageable so that he can have that brief release.
05. TALKING~
Well, this isn't a rarity or anything, depending on the planet, but the Doctor does have a tendency to talk to an excess and get on quite the tangent. He's rather good with words really, good with using lots of them, and he tends to use them when trying to both distract himself from his thoughts and his opponents from.. well there's nothing better than being in a clearly disadvantaged position and managing to confuse your captors about their own evil intents. Really, enough said.[/ul]
strengths~
One of the Doctor's most redeeming qualities is his ability to inspire others to their fullest potential. Particularly with Rose, the Doctor will ignore the fact that they're in a situation that requires immediate action and prod her into drawing conclusions he'd already made either immediately or with little effort. He sees positive impulses for what they are, and knowing fully well the consequences to have a lack of faith in your own judgment, he tries to keep others off that path.
02. BLUNTNESS~
This trait can be described as a slightly impolite sense of honor. The Doctor sees little reason to lie to anyone. Euphemisms simply don't occur to him as something that can benefit anyone's life. If you live forever in ignorance, you may be happy, but you wont be prepared. If someone is stupid, he will tell them. If someone is about to die, he will tell them. Despite the fact that this doesn't sound like a good thing, this honesty does enable him to be trusted, and it does make any praise by him well deserved.
03. CLEVERNESS~
The Doctor is both incredibly intelligent and incredibly worldly. And this makes for someone that can use thousands of years worth of knowledge about anything alongside of quick thinking and well phrased speech, to their advantage. A mark of his cleverness is the Sonic Screwdriver, a multi-purpose tool that he's created and used to get himself out of numerous fixes. In his own words, "If I'm very clever - and I'm more than clever, I'm brilliant- I might just save the world.. or rip it apart."
04. ENDURANCE~
While the Doctor's physical stamina is above the average humans by a notable amount, this is more referring to his ability to push past his brooding and his fears and his trauma for the benefit of the universe. Where he could have given up, he's pressed himself on for the slightest redemption, the slightest chance that he can save a few more lives instead of merely throwing away his own. His ability to deny his pain and push it to the back of his mind ultimately counts for success he achieves.
05. FORCEFULNESS~
Though not his most dominant trait, it's a stark contrast to the pacifism that the Doctor normally tries to embody. The Time War and it's conclusion hardened him, and made him far more bold and aggressive than his other incarnations, which can prove a good thing and can effectively save lives. He's more inclined to battle verbally, but if the necessity arises, he can use both physical force and violence without hesitation.[/ul]
weaknesses~
The Doctor cares more about Rose than he has any other person, and puts her wellbeing above most everything else; especially while she's traveling with him and after he's made the promise to keep her safe. He nearly lost her once, and never again will he loose her when the choice is between her or.. everyone, anyone, anything. Eventually his need to protect her will be his undoing.
02. SELF DOUBT~
Despite having quite the instinctive sense and often being forced to use it and his quick thinking, the Doctor would prefer to hear his better ideas from someone else's mouth; if only to slightly lessen his responsibility. One of the reasons he's so encouraging, besides to help his companions or so forth, is to get that confirmation that they've come to the same conclusion and he's doing the right thing. His own judgment, though he will take charge with it, does not often hold much regard to him.
03. GUILT~
While both the Doctor's next incarnations will carry a sense of Survivors Guilt and loneliness as the last of their species, the Ninth Doctor has not near gotten over that fact that he was the one to personally eliminate both the Time Lords and the Daleks. The mixture of seeing himself as a murderer, as one who didn't deserve to live while others died, and being effected in numerous other ways by the Time War has given him no reason to believe that he deserves to be forgiven; in fact its the exact opposite.
04. DENIAL~
Not lying, exactly, but putting all the negative thoughts on the back burner of his mind isn't uncommon for the Doctor. He typically stands by his convictions, refusing to admit fault even after notable failure, and he has a very set way in which he sees things and people around him. He can't handle knowing that he knows he's going to fail, and never again will he wait for an inevitable end when he has the option to do anything else about it.
05. EMOTIONAL EXHAUSTION~
Despite the Doctor's ability to act amazingly well under pressure, when faced with death or tragedies of the like his composure is very much broken (if at all existent in the first place). It overwhelms him and ruins much of the guise that he's built up, the laughing in the face of danger talking his way out of any and every problem facade. In these situations he will begin to slip into desperation and do things that might not necessarily be considered smart moves, unintentionally causing more harm than good.[/ul]
goals~ Saving people/planets/things, the usual
secrets~ Everything you don't know, of course
overall personality~
How one would judge the Doctor's attitude depends strongly on the person judging; but to the average human, the Doctor is a sharp-witted know it all, smarter than you and with no shame in admitting it. Despite being one of the most emotional incarnations of the Doctor, Nine comes off as completely emotion-less and alien, showing little empathy or regard for others' privacy, always down to curt blunt business. As he's said himself, he doesn't do domestic. If you meet him, it's probably because he's trying to save your life and planet. He'd rather not be bothered and questioned. So don't do it.
To those that have become his enemies, he is a force to be reckoned with. The Doctor laughs in the face of danger, and in this incarnation he's far more prone to acts of temper and violence if you get in his way. Though he usually isn't, he has the potential to be a ruthless man when those he cares about or mass group of people are threatened, and if you give him a reason to- he'll do it.
In reality, the Doctor is a dark individual. He holds an immense amount of failure, guilt, and loneliness within him. This usually goes unnoticed to those around him, or if it is noticed, he offers no explanation of his past. All the same, when confronted with enough despair, the masks he wears crumble without a question. He can't stand having more innocent blood on his hands and will try to avoid it at all costs. He knows how terrible he is in a way others don't and never will. Though he's constantly tortured by negative emotions they have allowed him to see the universe in a new appreciative light and he strives to protect it to the best of his ability.
home town~ Gallifrey
current residence~ The TARDIS
parents~ Not going to go there.
siblings~ Not. Going. To. Go there.
pets~ Well there's
family~ You would think that with how many times in this application the Time War .that. - .killed. - .the. - .entire. - .race. has been mentioned, you wouldn't ask such a stupid question. Since you apparently need to hear it again; they are dead.
history~ As I'm setting him pre Rose to avoid complications for the moment, the Ninth Doctor's history is not very extensive. Don't mind me while I cheat a bit and direct you to my rolepaly sample which covers the more or less only known event.
rp sample~
He watched them burn. One moment. One flash of light. That was all it took to wipe out a planet, two races, and then some. One moment. The Moment. A shot. Just like the ones that had rung millions a day since the war with he Daleks first began. But that one shot was more horrible than anything that he'd ever witnessed. It far surpassed all the terrors that had been unleashed in the past fifty years of the war. Just the last few days even; it was worse than hell. He sunk to the ground as a pain shot up his chest. The injuries, they'd been long forgotten. When had he gotten them? Had he even gotten them? The golden light began spilling -flooding- from both his arms, and his lips pressed a thin line. It was only fitting that he would burn away with the rest of them. Only fitting.[/size][/blockquote]
Extensive, extensive pain. He'd never experienced a slower regeneration or one in which he was more alone. But the better part of his thoughts, his thoughts and his eyes rested on the nothingness that lied ahead. The death, the destruction that would be forever known, and then never seen. Seen only by his eyes, which were burning away with the rest of them. The Time Lords and everything they were, all that they'd become. Nobody would ever imagine. Nobody would be able to see. Not to fix. He'd made sure of it. They'd never know and they'd never understand and it was only fitting. Had he mentioned how fitting?
The white flashed, burning, making him gasp and tearing him from his thoughts. He fell forward unceremoniously as the regeneration finished, staring at hands, new hands; that he could recognize even through his hazy doubled vision. For the longest time he just stared at those hands. He'd managed to forget, for just a moment, that his hands had been the hands of a murderer. He managed to forget that they'd held a gun that committed genocide. But his eyes, his eyes forgot nothing. It burned. Over, and over, and over again Gallifrey burned. The Nightmare Child, the Horde of Travesties. He thought about the few deaths now and he laughed. Few, they were, compared to what he'd done. And he laughed now, that he'd ever called those horrors. Laughed until his stomach ached, which was hardly an effort. He could only wish the regeneration left him with amnesia; gave him half the problems it had previously. So then his eyes may not have reminded his hands, which ran through his short hair quickly, sloppily. He took mental notes that disappeared in the back of his mind. A moment ago he'd wanted to burn. What did it matter how he looked?
Standing, the sharp pain was evident but familiar. He forced himself to walk. To run. To ignore the flashes and find the TARDIS. His body needed the Zero Room but his mind wanted him as far away as possible. It was still burning as far as he was concerned. They were still dying. And he was still doing nothing to stop it. He'd never been crosser with the blue police box, never more commanding in forcing the doors open, setting coordinates without a thought as to where he'd end up. It didn't matter where they went so long as it was anywhere that wasn't here. So long as it was far, far away. The snap of his tone almost surprised himself. So long since he'd properly seen her. So much time. She groaned as she took off and he held the console till the knuckles on his murdering hands turned white and he struggled to remain upright. It was the first time he'd said it out loud: "They're all gone."
The burning had been replaced by this point- been warped- merging with the other memories of the war where he saw both the Time Lords and the Daleks fall. He wouldn't know how much time passed. He wouldn't know how much of it was real anymore, or how much was a hallucination as life-like as it could have been. His head dropped down against his neck, body shaking as he stared past his hands and at the coat of his proceeder. It was shorter. He was taller. And he manteraed for a moment, about the stupid coat, because it was something to think about that wasn't burning. That wasn't taking short unsteady breaths and murmuring to the TARDIS that he'd killed them all. For a moment he'd almost regained composure. Rather, he'd almost fooled himself into thinking he'd fooled her he had.
When they reached their location, the TARDIS landed too smoothly, as if she'd known he couldn't handle anything else. He'd have thanked her, he'd have apologized to her, he'd have joked- but the words were lost in his throat. He walked slowly this time from the console room, out the doors, and into the world. Into an empty, gray scaled street. It was nothing special, but such a stark contract to where he'd last been. Silent. Slightly chilly. The place itself he recognized without missing a beat. Half his mind was gone, burning still and fuzzy with black spots, but it didn't take much to remember Totter's Lane. To remember Susan. To remember the first time his TARDIS took on the form it carries today. It took nothing to remember, but everything to forget. He knew the steps from memory, where to go and what he'd see. A marvel how he did that. A marvel it was.. every bit of it. It must have been the early twenty-first century. Earth, 21s century, Sheffield England. A hundred years since he'd last seen it, but it hardly had changed.
Life, life was what he hadn't prepared to see. Standing in the middle of a junkyard in an aristocratic overcoat looking as if he'd seen a ghost - or maybe as if he was one, the last thing he'd been prepared for was the group of people crossing the street opposite of him. They may have missed him, but he backed up quickly, watching them still with widened eyes until he finally turned; and then it dawned on him. Why he hid from a group of humans. A group of ignorant humans. "I'm the last one." Not only had he killed them, killed them all- but he was the last of the Time Lords. The last of a race that was once so powerful, so prepared to take over, to destroy everything. And they'd been eliminated in only a moment. Eliminated so that they weren't exterminated. Exterminated so that they weren't exterminated. The laughter was even more pained, his eyes even darker than they'd been before. He fumbled to unbutton his coat, pulling it off and letting it fall to the ground. It had grown too tight, too constricting. It was the only part of him that hadn't died with Gallifrey and it had taken him this long to realize that. "They're dead." He shook his head. "I killed them. I'm the last one." He was disgusted with himself; horrified by it all. He was guilty. And now he was alone.
