He couldn't have been gone. Annie couldn't and didn't want to believe that there was a world without Finnick, her eyes had to be deceiving her and people had to be thinking she was throwing a fit or something - he couldn't really be dead, surely. Annie had watched him when she was only ten win one hunger games, and then she had watched him be reaped again for the third one. Even if it had technically never been completely, he would have survived it, because he was Finnick and there was no way he was dead. Surely he would just walk in one day and hug her and tell her everything would be alright, that she could tell her she was having his baby and they could be happy and go on to live as normal of a life as you could get in the Capitol. That was what had to happen. That was what she really, really needed to be happening right now.
Yet, she'd found herself in this weird world. It seemed to be crowded with weird things going down what appeared to be some older fashioned streets. People ignored her and it was overly crowded and full of unfamiliar people, and people who didn't even know her - and victors had always been very well known, especially when things like insanity happened to them so badly. So that was enough to throw her off and get her temporarily suspicious about the world when she managed to focus on it, but other than that she didn't know what she was doing. Survival was an easy instinct for her if nothing else and she wasn't really having much difficulty on that part, she just needed to figure out where she was and what was going on. There were no signs of the hunger games or Capitol, after all, which had quickly become blatantly obvious and confusing.
Of course, going public wasn't much of a resort for her. Annie had found herself sitting next to a large body of water on a cooler day, not bothered by the temperature despite being barefoot and in capris with a loose, over-sized shirt. It had been Finnick's. Another thing that she could do desperately clutch onto with memory of him, surely. But he couldn't really have been dead, her eyes had to be playing some trick onto him. But his head... it hadn't been with his body. It's been decapitated, just like that other tributes. All of her thoughts were mashing together unconformable=y and terribly contradicting each other, one moment believing he was dead and the next in completely denial. It was a hard way to live life, especially around strangers, hence why despite being here for still quite a few hours (or was it days? she couldn't really tell) she hadn't tried to approach anyone and was still hoping they wouldn't approach her.

» i saw my reflection in the snow covered hills « » till the landslide brought me down « Nothing had been particularly beside the ordinary; the Doctor running around the TARDIS and the TARDIS giving an occasional click or creak as he flipped the knobs and switches and steered her off. His driving skills had worsened somewhat in this incarnation, his usual 'give or take ten years' sometimes being twenty or thirty or even a century or so. She did a lot of the deciding for him as well, the piloting itself being more of a formality as the destination was long since preset. There was very little he wanted to do and so he just would go and do what there was. She had stepped up where he faltered and took him where he was most needed.
The Doctor was taken aback slightly as the TARDIS lurched and groaned suddenly, veering them off somewhere into time and space before changing their course once more in a way he couldn't rightly identify. There was an obvious disruption interrupting her readings, somehow throwing her off of whatever she'd decided. Immediate, urgent; it had happened before but it excited him slightly where it should have probably been concerning. Only after a moment he realized that she'd actually locked in on something rather precise and they were closing in for a landing on it.
As he exited the TARDIS he stepped onto what he could call Earth without skipping a beat, though his exact time and location was unknown. The TARDIS had settled between a group of trees, a few leaves having stuck themselves to the top of the blue police box and the wet grass around them ruined to mud in the skid of its landing. It was one of the nicer views of Earth, he had to admit, probably due to the lack of humans on either side of him. The more of them there were the more natural life seemed to die out. Of course, he was hardly one who could talk about a lack of life around.
He stepped out from the tree's cover and examined what was assumably a lake, still on every side save the ripple when a harsh wind blew his way. Had she been any more still herself, he may have missed the woman curled up on the lake's edge, lost in some thought not totally unfamiliar. "Excuse me, Ma'am," He offered the woman a sort of awkward wave, but was prevented from continuing his statement when a sound rather like a hiss was emitted from something behind him. Turning, he gave a quick glance at the creature -- a mix of human and reptilian, standing as maybe an inch or so under him on two of it's four legs -- and then he looked back at the woman with a big grin. "Actually, never mind that." He turned again as the alien gave a lunge towards them, just ducking out of the way of its talons in time. "Actually," he looked at her over his shoulder once more, "You might want to run for your life now."

This world simply lacked any kind of sense. There was no order to it and the people here were extremely odd. From the looks of things, they weren't all struggling to get their food and quite a few cases looked like the exact opposite of struggling. It wasn't like where she had been, with them so precisely crafting every meal to fit you perfectly until the next meal. Annie didn't understand that. She had never eaten it all like you were supposed to, but she was also much thinner than the other people that had found themselves there. Someone might have guessed that she'd eat more after they had gotten her back from being kidnapped. They were wrong.
A lot of things had been going wrong. Right after she'd come back, things hadn't. Everything had been happy and perfect even with the war going on, something that was completely over her head. Annie didn't understand it and it didn't focus on it, choosing to cover her ears and eyes, or laugh at it. That had certainly been more than good enough for her sanity... or, you know, whatever was left of it, which was little. Not everyone had to endure the Hunger Games, and even those that did responded differently. Most didn't make it out, so going insane after watching your male tribute be decapitated? Not the worst of reactions. At least Mags had volunteered for her the second round of things, because all hell would have broken loose if she had gone in again. She needed all of the sanity that she could spare.
The sudden voice caused her to jump quickly on her feet, green eyes going wide as if panicked by the sudden appearance. Knowing it wasn't Finnick (she could have recognized his voice in less than a heartbeat), almost all of her instincts told her to leave with it being unfamiliar. Her legs remained locked in place however, unsure how to respond. She didn't like people that she didn't know out of instinct and didn't feel even remotely comfortable around them. While there may have been no outright threat, appearances could be oh so deceiving. She knew that herself, no one expected that a skinny little girl like herself could have won.
However, even at the suggestion to run like Annie had certainly been contemplating, her muscles still remained frozen in place. She didn't know if the thing that she was seeing was real or not, or if it was another twisted hallucination. Those seemed to have become pretty common for her - to the point where she was starting to consider that everything was fake, the rebellion and this world and Finnick being dead and everything that had gone wrong. That would have made things so much easier. Maybe this man wasn't even real. Her mouth opened briefly as if she was going to say something before shutting once again, eyes remaining wide and still with no idea what she should have been doing.

» i saw my reflection in the snow covered hills « » till the landslide brought me down « Sometimes the Doctor really couldn't fathom the stupidity of the human race. He hadn't expected her to be able to handle herself in this situation, but he didn't think it was too much to ask she had some basic fight or flight instinct. Running and screaming was stupid, but at least smart enough to prevent her from getting mauled by the creature that wasn't hesitating to attack them. He grabbed her by the arm and pulled her to the ground as it leapt just a foot too high, mouth opening to show off a set of teeth that could easily rip either of them in half. "How do you get around with all that mush in your head?" he asked exasperatedly.
Jumping to his feet and never letting go of her arm he took off running. "You could start moving your feet any time now. One two, one two; like this. It'd be rather appreciated." He stole another glance over his shoulder. The alien was slithering after them. It was clearly quicker, but the maze of trees in close proximity was keeping it from reaching his full speed. Rather than concentrating on the stupid human he was towing he began trying to formulate a plan to subdue the violent extraterestrial. There wasn't much he knew about it but it appeared to resemble the creatures on this planet. A time skipped mutation of some sort being his first guess. If that was the case trapping it was more or less useless as he couldn't just leave it here and didn't have anywhere else to cart it off too.
He was leading her to the TARDIS so he had one less thing to worry about but as soon as the police box was in sight they were met with another of the creatures. He gave a sudden sharp turn, momentum pulling the woman in front of him and forward on as the lizard like creature that had been chasing them landed mid-lunge and tore through both his jacket and upper arm. He free hand pulled out the Sonic Screwdriver and aimed it at a large branch above them, pressing the button as it snarled and moved for a kill. The branch fell on the creatures head, doing little more than infuriating it, but giving them a moment to escape and run ahead.
Once again he found the woman's arm once he'd caught up with her, motioning her to the box. The second of the lizard mutations had ventured slightly after it's companion was burried in leaves. He unlocked the door and jerked it open. "Inside now, come on." Hardly giving her the chance to comply he edged them in and shut the door behind them. He was expecting the usual. The formalities. The 'what was that' and 'who are you' and of course, 'its bigger on the inside'; but this woman seemed to carry herself with a five minute delayed reaction. So while she went off with her small brained bouts of wide eyed wonder he disappeared into one of the many rooms and returned pulling out a large box. He shrugged his injured arm from his jacket and began taking out pieces of weaponry, tossing them glance before throwing them aside and taking out something new. He took a piece from this and a piece from that and put them together. "Well; I expect this isn't what you're were expecting sittin' out by the lake, is it?"

An initial reaction was nothing that she could help, and that reaction was one that she wished had never been there in the first place. But it was still, and it was one that most people didn't have. It was entirely related to the Hunger Games and, quite honestly, it was too get rid of him and then run. But her feet still remained in the same place despite the obvious danger that was heading at her. Most people probably would have thought to run by now, because just a single glance at her it was pretty easy to tell she was a skinny little thing that wouldn't hold well anymore in hand to hand combat. She, however, was most definitely not most people - partially because she was insane. So common sense? Not her strongest subject, to put it politely.
When her feet were moving beneath her, Annie hardly even noticed it, though having him grab her arm brought back a flood of memories. And so much of it was so easy to compare. Those things, being the other tributes, and in some ways even the arena had had a vaguely similar look to them - most of them did involve some kind of wooded area to them, after all. She remembered running through them with utmost desperation, as at that time she had had her sanity. She'd been running with her male tribute, before she'd seen his head come off. Things back then had been a lot easier. She could have held herself in a fight and even in just the area of sanity without a problem before she had had to witness that. What the Capitol put innocent children through was absolutely horrific, and they weren't stopping yet.
But that wasn't the present, not really, where she was. Which, of course, made things very confusing for her. The scrambled thoughts were interrupted when suddenly she wasn't moving so much, stumbling slightly but keeping her balance. Balance had always been easy. Being small also helped in that matter. But she'd always been around water and been told not to get into it despite how crammed together things had been sometimes, even in a Career distract, so she was very good at holding herself up. At least she was physically capable of quite a few things - killing, even surprisingly being one of them. But it hadn't exactly gotten her all too for running, though. So it didn't seem like it had really mattered all that much in this situation.
And then she was inside? Things were moving too quickly for her to be able to comprehend both her surroundings and what was going on in her head. The lines between them were easy to blur. The man seemed to be gone suddenly and then she was on the ground, if she'd fallen or something along the lines of sitting down she was unsure. But her thin legs were pulled up against her chest, tight though she hadn't wrapped her arms around them. Giving a glance over the place, she appeared to be rather unaffected by it. She'd seen some strange technology type things in her time, and really, strange things in general. That didn't mean that this wasn't, however. By the time the man had walked in, after all, her hands were over her ears and she was rocking back and forth slightly, trying to ignore it all. She just wanted Finnick.

» i saw my reflection in the snow covered hills « » till the landslide brought me down « Just like the Doctor had expected, the woman remained commentless, retreated to a corner and trembling slightly. He knew enough about human anatomy and psychology to know that she was probably experiencing some kind of shock, but a mental breakdown wouldn't kill her the way those lizard like creatures would rip apart anyone they managed to get their hands on. And he couldn't watch anyone get killed. He couldn't. He'd have to deal with her later.
There was a slightly resounding bang as the TARDIS took a hit from outside, but it obviously didn't shake or fall the way one would expect from it's exterior. The Doctor paused to look up only for a moment before continuing to compose his makeshift weapon. He expected that he couldn't take them out with a blast. They were hard skinned, probably built for these types of contact. He'd have to actually pierce it and though he was normally against such deliberate murder they would have easily killed this girl and anyone else and he.. he couldn't. He'd kill them before he let anyone die on his watch.
It was only as he was fishing through the remains of the box for a final piece - it had gone relatively fast using the Sonic as a universal tool- he discovered the tranquilizer darts. How or why or when he'd settled them there he was uncertain. They were used on creatures much bigger though, so it would certainly buy them time. And maybe, maybe he was aware that the difference in size might kill the futuristic mutations after all. But they would die peacefully. And maybe he could pretend that he didn't know.
Making a final modification so that he could load it with he darts he rose to his feet and gave another glance at the woman on the ground."Stay here." he instructed, voice firm, lacking the tone he'd used in his more eccentric comments. This was an order. his voice softened only slightly as he mentally scolded himself. The girl was already scared. "I'll be back soon." It didn't seem to make amends.
He stood against the TARDIS door for a moment, trying to listen outside before giving them a chance in. He opened the latch and was out and with the door slammed behind him in hardly a second. Standing face with one of the creatures and catching the other one in his peripheral vision he raised his weapon and shot. The one in front of his went for an attack, exposing its underside to the arrow and falling almost on the Doctor, had he not managed a quick step to the right.
Turning though, he found the other to be nowhere in sight, and he backed up against the TARDIS quickly, but not quick enough to avoid being knocked off his feet when the lizard's front legs -or arms, depending how you looked at it- smashed into his back. He rolled and fired up at it without a second thought, far less resent in his eyes as this one had given him a good reason. It took the dart half sticking out of its side and it made a whining noise as it settled on the ground.
Rising with a more pronounced grimace this time he strode over to each of them in turn to check for signs of life. The first one he'd shot was dead without a question . He frowned at it for a moment before moving over. The one who'd gotten at him that last time was still breathing, pulse under it's scales beating in nice even time. How long it would be out was a good question, but one thing that was for sure was that it wouldn't be very happy upon waking up.
